There have been many great artists in the history of mankind. Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael Sanzio or even Michelangelo, but wait… What about the greatest and grandest of them all: Mother Nature. From her hands full of elegance, beauty and perfection, came mountains as high as Mount Everest, deserts as extensive as the Sahara, in addition to beautiful forests, glaciers, beaches, rainbows, lakes and waterfalls that are simply awe inspiring.

You might have heard about some of the highest and longest waterfalls of the world but there are many relatively unknown waterfalls which can only be described as weird and surreal. Let’s have a look at some of the most uncanny and mind-boggling waterfalls from all over the planet.

When viewed from above, you can clearly see the second round of sand creating the impression of an “underwater waterfall”. The deceptive visual impression created in the water due to runoff of sand and silt deposits is especially effective and impressive in aerial shots and even satellite pictures.

Seen from another angle, the ocean is clearly only a spectacular range of blue, green and white, which visually simulates a sense of three-dimensionality that plunges as a waterfall sliding. Although it has become apparent that there is a deceptive illusion, there is still something very magical about the idea of a waterfall underwater.

Seljalandsfoss is possibly one of the most famous waterfalls that exist in Iceland. This is a country that is full of waterfalls in some of their places, but this one, which is in the municipality of East Rangáring in southern Iceland, is the most recognized because it has trails left to be seen by several sides, discovering its beauty.

Seljalandsfoss waterfall is sixty meters high and tourists will surely have seen it in several books and photographs because it is one of the most photographed in the world.

The cascade down the pothole Baatara located in the path of Mount Lebanon. [Discovered in 1952, the drop of water falls 255 meters into a cave of Jurassic limestone. The water falls more than 255 metres into the Baatara pothole located on the Lebanon Mountain trail and made up of Jurassic limestone. During the snow melt in spring, a waterfall of 90-100 meters falls behind the three bridges and then down into the abyss.

The amazing thing about Havasu waterfalls is not its size or quantity of water, but the surreal desert environment, the red earth and blue-green tinge in water, in such an idyllic environment.

Havasu Falls Canyon has an incredible blue-green tint that seems impossible in the midst of a barrel of the red earth: the cause of color is due to the high level of calcium carbonate in the water.

A color that gives its name to the people of Havasupai (“people of the blue-green waters”). The Havasu waterfall has a stunning fall from 37 meters in a vertical cliff to an ideal natural pool for enjoying a refreshing swim.

Nature will surely surprise you if you are in the right place at the right time. Hundreds of photographers have invaded the Yosemite National Park (California, USA) awaiting what is known as Firefall (fire waterfall) in the Horsetail Fall (waterfall horsetail), a phenomenon that occurs each year in the month of February for ten days.

The visitors compare the experience of witnessing the firefall to that of a volcano erupting. The effect lasts only a few minutes, just when the sun sets and casts its orange light on water. The intensity of light is so strong that it simulates a lava flowing into the abyss, but it is only an optical illusion.

Ban Gioc-Detian Waterfall is located on the border of Vietnam and China. It is the fourth largest waterfall along a border. Its main jump is called the Tongling Gorge accessible only by a cave of an adjacent creek.

A true marvel of nature. It’s water falls from from a height of 30 metres and rushes down a ravine with tremendous force.

On the front face of Taylor Glacier, located in the McMurdo Dry Valleys in the Antarctica- there is a waterfall of ice that is dyed a deep red eerily similar to the color of blood. The region is one of the strangest in the world, and some scientists even believe that in the lake that causes the cascade, there may be extraterrestrial organisms adapted to life in inhospitable conditions.

One of the most fascinating natural wonders present in Antarctica are the Blood Falls. Unknown to almost everyone, it is a source of salt water that has a deep red color that occasionally emanates from Taylor Glacier.

In addition to that, these Horizontal Falls are complemented with beautiful gorges located in McLarty Range.
